Application Notes
Application for Admission
All applications should be submitted before the application deadlines. The required documents are as follows:
1. Duly completed and signed application form.
2. Copy of Hong Kong Identity Card or passport.
3. Two recent, front-view, passport-sized photos.
4. Copy of graduation certificates/diplomas and official academic transcripts from secondary and/or tertiary education. A successful applicant for a master or doctor degree program is required to submit the official transcript of his/her bachelor/master degree (directly send by the institution to LTS by post).
5. Recommendation for admission from the following responsible persons, depending upon the applying program. The recommendation letters must be sent directly through mail or email to LTS by the referees.
a. For pastoral training programs (BTH/MDIV/DDP-BM):
Complete the standard form “Recommendation for Admission - General Program”. Two recommendations are required:
i) by the minister-in-charge on behalf of the applicant’s congregation; and
ii) by a person who knows the applicant well through work, church or community association.
b. For advanced study programs (MTH/DTH):
Complete the standard form “Advanced Studies Program Confidential Recommendation”. Three recommendations are required:
i) by a professor of a seminary; and
ii) by a professor/scholar in the particular field of study; and
iii) by an ecclesiastical officer of the applicant’s congregation.
c. For advanced study programs (DMIN):
Complete the standard form “Advanced Studies Program Confidential Recommendation”. Four (or five) recommendations are required:
i) by a professor of a seminary; and
ii) by a clergy colleague of the applicant’s congregation; and
iii) by a lay leader of the applicant’s congregation; and
iv) a Church/Organization Statement (an official supporting letter from the applicant’s working church/organization).
v) An additional recommendation letter of the province CCC and TSPM is required for the applicants from the Mainland China.
d. For Exchange/Intercultural Study programs:
Complete the standard form “Recommendation for Admission - General Program”. Two recommendations are required:
i) by the home institution; and
ii) by an ecclesiastical officer of the applicant’s congregation.
e. For other programs:
Complete the standard form “Recommendation for Admission - General Program”. Two recommendations are required:
i) by an ecclesiastical officer of the applicant’s congregation; and
ii) by a person who knows the applicant well through work, church or community association. This recommendation is exempted for the graduates of LTS credit programs.
6. Written works for admission:
a. For pastoral training programs (BTH/DDP-BM/MDIV):
i) Autobiographical Sketch: including the testimony of conversion, spiritual experience, the experience of church service, reasons for studying theology and future plans, around 1,000 words; and
ii) Testimony of Calling: a testimony of calling to pastoral ministry, around 1,000 words.
b. For advanced study programs:
i) applying MTH program: Plan of Study: a self-assessment of personal and professional development and of strengths and areas of need, some projection of professional expectations for the future and a statement of the objectives and the research topic for the MTH study. 5-10 typewritten pages in English or Chinese.
ii) applying DMIN program: Personal Statement: a personal statement describing the ministerial experience, self-assessment of personal and professional development and of strengths and areas of need, some projection of professional expectations for the future and a statement of the objectives and the research topic for the DMIN study. 10-15 typewritten pages in English or Chinese.
iii) applying DTH program: Research Proposal: a research proposal giving reasons for pursuing graduate study, a summary of academic work done in anticipation of DTH study, and a description of the intended area of study and specialization. 5-10 typewritten pages in English or Chinese.
c. For other programs:
i) Autobiographical Sketch: including the testimony of conversion, spiritual experience, the experience of church service, reasons for studying theology and future plans, around 1,000 words. This written work is exempted for the LTS graduates who had submitted it before, and for the applicants of pastoral enhancement programs.
7. Academic written works:
a. For advanced study programs:
i) applying MTH/DMIN program: a published or non-published academic thesis in English or Chinese.
ii) applying DTH program: a published or non-published Master of Theology graduation thesis in English or Chinese.
8. Fees (non-refundable):
a. Application for admission fees: $400 (for diploma, postgraduate diploma, bachelor, master, exchange programs and ISP); $600 (for doctoral programs); $200 (for Non-degree program, it is transferable if the student apply into a new program within one year).
b. Personality test fee: $400.
9. Medical examination form (submit after admission): it is required for applicants for the pastoral training programs (BTH/MDIV/DDP-BM) or boarding arrangement. Completed by a registered medical doctor.
